Vision of the GSPD
The social position of disabled people in Ghana is poor. Driven by unawareness,
ignorance and at times even old beliefs that disabled are cursed, disabled in the rural areas of Ghana
tend to be excluded from daily life.
The GSPD believes strongly in the potential of disabled people to lead meaningful lives. With proper attention, training and care,
the vast majority of the disabled can overcome their disadvantaged position and contribute to society.
In the GSPD's vision, the key in taking care of the disabled is in empowerment.
The GSPD does this by hosting disabled people as resident students for a limited period in dedicated
centres (usually between 1-4 years). During this time, the students are taught vocational skills
that fit with their capabilities, improve their self-confidence and spirit and prepare them to venture
independently after graduation.
